Kane Williamson will miss New Zealand’s 50-over World Cup opener towards England on 5 October as he continues his restoration from a knee harm.
The Black Caps’ one-day worldwide and T20 captain, 33, has not performed since tearing cruciate ligaments on the Indian Premier League in April.
New Zealand cricket say Williamson will play as a batter in a warm-up recreation towards Pakistan on Friday.
He’ll then look to bat and area in a ultimate warm-up towards South Africa.
“Proper from the beginning we have taken a long-term view on Kane’s return to play,” stated New Zealand coach Gary Stead.
“His restoration is monitoring nicely and it is now a matter of creating positive he can address the rigours and depth of worldwide cricket.
“We’ll proceed to take a daily strategy to Kane’s rehabilitation and positively will not be placing any strain on him to return earlier than he’s prepared.”
Williamson has performed 161 ODIs, scoring 6,554 runs at a median of 47.83.
Tom Latham will captain the Kiwis towards Pakistan and may be skipper after they face England in Ahmedabad, India.
The event opener is a repeat of the 2019 World Cup ultimate at Lord’s, which England gained based mostly on the quantity of boundaries scored.
