Basketball Africa League looks to boost women’s game on continent-ZoomTech News


The Basketball Africa League (BAL) is working with world governing physique Fiba to nurture feminine expertise and develop the game on the continent.

The BAL is in its fourth 12 months as a males’s event, with the 2024 champions set to be selected 1 June after play-offs involving eight groups in Kigali, Rwanda.

BAL president Amadou Gallo Fall says work “is already being achieved” by his organisation to spice up the ladies’s recreation.

“There’s a girls’s membership championship that Fiba is working and we constructed the BAL on the muse of membership basketball that Fiba used to run,” he advised BBC Sport Africa.

“We contribute in the direction of funding in rising the ladies’s recreation.

“The muse is laid.”

A key problem for Gallo Fall is to develop the feminine expertise pool throughout the continent.

“We have to proceed to help girls’s participation within the sport and the event at grassroots degree working with Fiba,” the Senegalese added.

“I do know the ladies’s recreation may be very standard in sure international locations – Senegal, Mozambique, Egypt, Mali and Nigeria.

“We need to develop the ladies’s recreation to verify there are extra international locations taking part in the game.”
