HMRC investigators claimed again £124.8m in unpaid tax from Premier League golf equipment within the 12 months to 31 March 2023.
That was up from £58.7m the earlier tax 12 months, in line with figures compiled by accountancy group UHY Hacker Younger.
Reclaimed funds included Nationwide Insurance coverage on brokers’ charges and picture rights, plus tax on advantages in type.
“We’ll proceed to fastidiously scrutinise preparations between golf equipment, gamers and brokers to make sure the proper tax is paid,” stated HMRC.
“We work carefully with the soccer business to coach and cope with tax threat head on.”
Advantages in type included flights and accommodations for Premier League gamers and households.
Elliott Buss, of UHY Hacker Younger, stated HMRC was “actually cracking down on the soccer business”.
He added: “HMRC now have these golf equipment’ tax affairs of their sights.
“The rising proportion of brokers’ charges being paid by golf equipment is drawing the eye of the taxman to the chance that not all tax due on these funds is being paid.”
