A consortium of golf equipment has been awarded a licence to run the lads’s skilled basketball league in Britain.
The way forward for the British Basketball League was thrown into doubt in June when the British Basketball Federation terminated the previous agreement with Basketball League Ltd (BLL) to run the league due to “clear breaches of the licence” and monetary considerations.
Premier Basketball Restricted, an organization fashioned from a consortium of British golf equipment, has now been given a three-year licence which “permits preparations for the 2024-25 season to be accomplished”.
“I am delighted that followers, gamers, workers and companions can look ahead with confidence to the continuation of high stage British membership basketball,” stated BBF chair Chris Grant OBE.
“The truth that we have been capable of transfer so rapidly following the termination of the earlier licence is right down to the positivity and unity of the golf equipment, in addition to the professionalism and focus of our BBF group and board.”
BLL had been working the lads’s sport since being awarded a 10-year licence by the game’s governing physique in 2017.
United States-based funding firm 777 Companions – who failed to finish a proposed takeover of Premier League soccer membership Everton – purchased a forty five% stake in BLL in December 2021.
The BBF added that “preparations are already underway for the scoping and invites to bid for a long-term licence” and that the fixture listing for the 2024-25 season is to be introduced “within the coming weeks”.
