A day in the ruins of Morocco’s earthquake – podcast-ZoomTech News


On Friday night time, Morocco’s Excessive Atlas mountains have been hit by a 6.8 magnitude earthquake and tremors have been felt in a number of areas throughout the nation from Marrakech to Casablanca. Since then, the dying toll has handed 2,800 folks.

Peter Beaumont, senior reporter on the Guardian’s International Growth desk, tells Michael Safi about his time reporting within the villages of the Excessive Atlas mountains. Peter meets the communities who’ve been left with out help because the earthquake.

“Every little thing they’ve accomplished, they’ve accomplished for themselves,” he says. “They’ve dug out their survivors and so they’ve dug out their useless.”

Ibtissam Bouseta was in Marrakech when the earthquake occurred. She works for the Moroccan biodiversity and livelihoods Affiliation, who’re serving to with the aid effort. She tells Michael how tough it’s to achieve among the impacted communities, and why they’re desperately in want of shelter and extra help.
